8 Classic Doctor Who Monsters Who Should Make A Return

Giant Ants might be what you expect from old low-budget Doctor Who. They aren't exactly the most inventive alien race to be seen in the show's run. However, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be bought back in some form. With modern special effects, the Zarbi could return while looking better than ever.

First appearing in a First Doctor adventure, these ant creatures were under the control of Animus, a strange creature that was described as pure evil by The Doctor. Slaves to the Animus, the Zarbi were commanded to hunt down The Doctor and his companions. By the end of the story the creatures are free of the mind control and return to their natural state.

Bringing these creatures back, it may be more interesting to have The Doctor accidentally get trapped in one of their nests. Tight corridors, no TARDIS, no companions, and the distant screeching of Zarbi workers could provide a fantastic atmosphere for an episode of Doctor Who. If you were going to re-introduce The Zarbi, you could even attempt to bring back the Menoptera, a race of aliens that slightly resemble a humanoid cross of butterfly and bees.
