6. Awsok Is The White Guardian
A straw hat can mean a lot, can’t it? In Doctor Who… maybe. The mysterious Awsok who told the Doctor that the Flux was a man-made event and had been released because of the Doctor.
The enigmatic woman in white (with a straw hat) seemed to know the Doctor and had an air of superiority as only a supreme being like a Guardian could have.
The White Guardian first interacted with the Fourth Doctor when he is pulled into the White Guardian’s clutches and convinced to seek out the Keys of Time. He didn’t appear again until Enlightenment, when he’d dropped the straw hat and had a bird stuck on his head instead.
The Guardians haven’t appeared on screen since then, but even though all we’re going off is a character wearing white robes and a straw hat, we shouldn’t dismiss the theory entirely. As god-like entities, the Guardians are able to change their form at will and would definitely have the knowledge that Awsok seemed to carry.
Hopefully we’ll find out the truth at some point over the next few weeks. And let’s not forget that theories were abound that Passenger could have been The Shadow - an ally of the Black Guardian in the classic series. There’s more than enough nods and coincidences that bring those characters to mind. Whether it’s intentional or a red herring remains to be seen.
