8 Mind-Blowing Doctor Who Facts You Never Knew

4. The Eighth Doctor Was ‘Half-Human’ Somehow, Then Later Wasn’t

Doctor Who: The Movie was a take-it-or-leave-it chunk of lore in the Whoniverse. Paul McGann's Doctor sure was excellent, but there were moments of the film that many Who fans have left behind.

One in particular was the revelation that The Doctor was half-human, his mother specifically originating on Earth. Whether this was said in an attempt to woo Grace during the events of the film or as a reason as to why he's so infatuated with Earth and humanity is still up in the air.

This sliver of backstory has been more-or-less ignored in the rebooted series, but it appears Steven Moffat has attempted to quash this statement in 2014's Listen. Clara encounters a young Doctor on a past Gallifrey, and almost bumps into both of The Doctor's parents. Either the parents are both Gallifreyan, or the father took the Earthling mother back to his home world. Moffat has put his money on the former, and we'll know not to ever speak of that odd scene in the movie again.
