8 Perfect TV Finales Ruined By One Thing

4. The Fall Series Finale - He Gets Away With It

Supernatural soul catcher Rowena season 11
BBC Two

It sure was a controversial decision to end this acclaimed thriller series with murderer Paul Spector taking his own life, thus sparing himself from a life in prison. After what could fairly be called a rather horrific three seasons of Spector assaulting and murdering women and grooming a young girl, the decision to have him never face justice was shocking.

With all we had watched him get away with, as an audience I think we were entitled to the catharsis of agent Stella Gibson (the wonderful Gillian Anderson) finally catching him and putting him away for good. Instead we finished the episode with a bitter taste in our mouths as we came to accept the families of the murdered girls would never get justice, and Gibson would never get closure.

The series as a whole is undeniably dark but, for the most part, expertly crafted; the final episode was no exception. It was, however, a real shame that in an episode that was otherwise equally as thrilling, interesting and character-focussed as any other they chose to ruin the show’s final impact by denying us what we really wanted to see.
