8 Reasons The Walking Dead Has Lost Its Way This Season

6. A Whole Episode Of Tara

Was this really necessary?

With The Walking Dead split into to half-seasons, was a full episode focused on Tara - a character who has never really caught on with fans - something we needed to see? Short answer, no. Long answer - no, but it was done to set up a plot device that will hopefully pay off down the road.

Still, there were better ways to go about it. Tara's story in Swear, the sixth episode of season seven, could easily have been a subplot of just about any of the episodes airing immediately prior to it. In it, she winds up separated from Heath (remember him? He may or may not be alive), and encounters a strange new group of survivors who are entirely female.

They're very secretive, they hate outsiders - and they really, really dislike Negan.

Get it? They'll surely be allies by the end of the season! Which could have been made obvious in a third of an episode, rather than a drawn out examination of Tara doing relatively stupid things to fill an hour of the show.
