8 Reasons The Walking Dead Has Lost Its Way This Season
7. Creating A Disjointed Narrative
Did AMC really need to split the show into essentially three groups, and leave characters forgotten for weeks at a time?
No, no they didn't. Yet they did it anyway, doing a huge disservice to fans (maybe the thinking was that Walking Dead fans couldn't follow the narrative if an episode jumped POV characters too much?) in the process. This decision got the season off to a very poor start: After the season opener and deaths of Glenn and Abraham, we got a Carol and Morgan outing, then a Daryl episode, then it was finally back to Rick and company.
And lets not forget at one point, an entire episode was focused on Tara (we'll get to that in a moment).
Frankly, with the story so chopped up, it's hard to remember or care what's going on with a group of survivors you haven't seen for a few weeks. This has been a problem the last couple of seasons, but it really came to a head this year. It's a simple fix - or it would be, for a show with sharper writing.
