8 Reasons You Must Watch HBO's The Leftovers
2. POV Episodes
A Lindelof staple made famous by his work on Lost, the point-of-view (POV) episodes are some of the show's very best. Instead of working through the larger plot, a POV episode allows us to focus on an individual character often within a self contained story. The episodes are a great way to illuminate the character in question and show us different sides of them.
They never feel superfluous or filler and will progress each character's arc in one way or another. Some examples will be the time when Reverend Matt attempts to find enough money to keep his church, or the time Nora has to go to a conference and struggles with her own identity, or when Kevin Garvey Sr. travels the Australian outback looking for a special kind of song he believes will help prevent Armageddon... That last one makes more sense with added context.
The POV episodes are fantastic opportunities to highlight the strengths of the writing and the cast, they bring every element that makes The Leftovers so great together in one package.
