8 Times American Horror Story Went Too Far

3. Tate's Character - Murder House/Apocalypse

Tate Langdon (played by Evan Peters) is arguably the most difficult character to break down. He is a loveable and hateable individual at the same time, and the more that is discovered about the Murder House in seasons such as Apocalypse, it seriously makes you question if Ryan Murphy was just looking for ways to give Tate a redemption arc.

The first introduction of Tate in Murder House depicts him as a troubled teenager who seems to have a few psychological problems. Soon enough, it is uncovered that Tate was a school shooter when he was alive and he took the lives of 15 students during that rampage. Not only did Tate commit a crime that left 15 teenagers dead, but he also then proceeded to rape Vivienne Harmon (the current occupant of the house) and then tell Vivienne's daughter, Violet, how to kill herself, which she carries out due to her severe depression.

American Horror Story creators were slammed at the time of this season being aired for 'romanticising' Tate's character through his relationship with Violet, and the decision to redeem the Langdon character in a crossover episode in Apocalypse was also heavily criticised, with some believing that Tate was the last character who deserved a redemption arc.
