1. Daredevil
Perhaps the most famous example is the Marvel Comics, and later TV hero, Daredevil. A tragic accident with a truck of toxic waste leaves young Matt Murdock blind, but also enhances his other senses to a superhuman level.
After years of martial arts training and honing his new senses, Matt assumes the superhero identity of Daredevil, protector of Hell's Kitchen. Villains, and fellow heroes who do not know Daredevil's secret identity, often don't immediately realise that he is blind.
In the comics, at least one villain who uncovers Daredevil's identity assumes that Matt Murdock is faking his blindness, believing that a truly blind man could not possibly display Daredevil's level of martial arts skill.
