8 TV Shows That Are About To Become Movies

4. Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

Not only did the success of 2017's It convince Paramount to greenlight a Pet Sematary remake, but they've also elected to move forward with another horror-focused project: a big-screen adaptation of Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

They've even hired It screenwriter Gary Dauberman for this one too, and since the original show actually featured clowns in a couple of episodes, you can bet your house that toothy red-haired monstrosity Zeebo will also make an appearance in the movie.

Are You Afraid Of The Dark? revolved around a group of teenagers called The Midnight Society, who would meet up in the woods to tell each other scary stories. This story would then be shown to the viewer.

D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) recently signed on to direct, and with an October 2019 release date set, this one will need to move fast. The original show - while scary - was relatively family-friendly, but it remains to be seen if the movie will aim to be edgier and more adult, or stick to those roots and go with a Goosebumps-style adaptation.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
