8 Unusual Demands Made By Guest Stars On Family Guy
1. Sam Elliott - Refused To Play Himself
One of the longest standing and absurdly funny characters that populated Quahog was the wonderful Mayor Adam West. Not only was the animated version of him loved, but so was the man behind the voice, by everyone watching and those lucky enough to be able to work with him.
When he sadly passed away in 2017, Family Guy had the difficult decision of whether or not to bring in a new Mayor, and if so who? They eventually settled on Sam Elliott, another big movie star who could bring a different yet still entertaining spin to the new Mayor of Quahog.
Much like Adam West played a caricature of himself on the show, the Family Guy producers approached Elliott with the same sort of vision. The actor initially rejected the idea however, as he had no interest in playing himself in the show, so the character of Wild West was born.
With Adam’s cousin, Family Guy brought something new to the position of Mayor instead of essentially the same thing as before, thanks to Elliott’s refusal to play himself. He wanted to play a real character, and the show is richer since because of it.
