9 Marvel Superheroes Who Desperately Deserve Their Own Netflix Series

Who They Are: Another of Marvel€™s properties to receive unjust visual treatment, Ghost Rider more than deserves an onscreen comeback. Ideally, Netflix would act as the harbinger of this reboot, but which Rider they adapt would be a whole other matter altogether.

Nicholas Cage offered his own quintessentially €˜Cage-y€™ performance as Johnny Blaze in Fox€™s oft derided 2007 adaptation of the Rider€™s source material, though it must be said that Blaze was not the sole proprietor of Zatharos€™ spirit. Danny Ketch and Robbie Reyes are two of the more recent characters to attain the mantle of the Rider, with each iteration of the comic depicting differing experiences of becoming Hell€™s very own murderous vigilante. Some react warmly to its power, whilst others coil in horror upon realisation of what they have become. It helps keep the Rider consistently fresh and relevant by occupying a niche space in the Marvel mythos, illustrating a very literal internal conflict and combining elements of the religious with the macabre to great effect.

Why They Deserve A Series: Danny Ketch seems like the most natural choice for a Netflix show he lacks the critical baggage of Johnny Blaze yet retains a stature and respect from Marvel fans as a consequence of serving a long time as the Rider himself. But (and this will be a controversial choice I imagine) Robbie Reyes really deserves primacy in this instance. Apart from the sheer fact that he helps diversify Marvel€™s onscreen lineup, Reyes€™ story is the most unique and indeed least associable with the now sadly popularised image of Fox€™s unfortunate depictions of the character.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
