9 Ups & NO Downs From Star Trek: Lower Decks 5.7 — Fully Dilated
6. UP — The L In LCARS Is For Licking
In some ways, it's reassuring to know that 24th century Starfleet technology is not food-and-drink-proof. The more things change, the more the risk from spillages stays the same. In other ways, it's quite concerning that a couple of cocktails can leave you stranded on a pre-industrial planet for a year.
Just a side note, and this is not a DOWN as there are too many variables, but we know that's not the only transporter room the Cerritos has. Wouldn't it have been quicker for Boimler and Rutherford to run to another and beam the away team up from there?
If they'd done that, we'd have missed out on the 'cut-to' comedy that only time dilation can provide. From the frame of reference of the planet, Rutherford and Boimler spent a good couple of weeks screaming over the sodden console.
It then, relatively speaking, took them most of the rest of the year to try to mop things up with their uniforms. That did nothing but create a "horrible goo". When all else failed, they just had to lick it up. By that point, relativity had probably left them to it.
