Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn’t Know About A Christmas Carol

A concept throughout the episode is people travelling via a shark-powered rickshaw, culminating in Kazran and Abigail's final night together as they soar through the skies of Sardicktown.

Unfortunately, as all the real flying sharks were busy, the team had to get creative when filming these scenes.

The bulk of them were captured using a life-sized rickshaw set against a green screen, with the actors doing their best to pretend they weren't just in a random warehouse. However, this setup made it impossible to film from underneath, which is where puppets and miniatures came in handy.

A smaller version of the rickshaw was built along with marionette versions of the characters, which were used to film shots of the rickshaw from below. The illusion was then neatly completed in the editing suite.
