Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn’t Know About A Christmas Carol

10. It Was Jenkins’ First Acting Role

An early idea for A Christmas Carol was to have an actress mime along to Abigail's song, which the producers hoped might be sung by Katherine Jenkins.

However, somebody clearly remembered that old adage about killing birds with stones, and Jenkins was invited to appear as Abigail herself.

The Welsh soprano was understandably quite nervous to take on the role, as her appearance in one of the biggest TV events of the year would be her very first acting gig.

While she had appeared on TV before as herself (including an Emmerdale cameo), this was the first time she had taken on an actual character.

Since A Christmas Carol, Jenkins has acted in a TV adaptation of the Dylan Thomas play Under Milkwood, and in a film with Johnny Depp.

Not too shabby.
