Ahsoka Episode 1 Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs

5. Up - The Rebels References

Ahsoka Episode 1 Master and Apprentice
Lucasfilm

The first Down from this episode was about the fact that the first entry of Ahsoka’s new chapter felt more like a continuation of Star Wars Rebels than her own story. However, that doesn’t mean that the aspects carried over from the animated series can’t be appreciated or enjoyed.

Aside from the obvious, being the introduction of Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla in live-action, there were tonnes of other details and Easter eggs. Clancy Brown returned to his role as Ryder Azadi, Ezra Bridger appeared if only as a hologram, and then there was the mural of the Ghost crew, and just being back on Lothal in general.

Rebels was arguably the strongest animated series Star Wars has ever put out, and is one of the best outright. To see the threads of the story picked up again after five years is wonderful. This series just has to be careful not to turn itself into a fifth season of that show and stay as Ahsoka’s solo series.

Otherwise, they might as well have just actually made another season of Rebels, right?
