Amazon's Lord Of The Rings: 10 Things Fans Demand
1. Tom Bombadil
For those of you not in the know, a little explanation of the character of Tom Bombadil may be needed. Since, you know, he RARELY makes it into any adaptation.
Bombadil is the unsolved mystery of Tolkien's work: he does not fit neatly into any of the species conjured, nor do any of his motives align with the good or evil of the books. He is the Master of the Old Forest, an exceptional poet, and far more powerful than any other being in Middle Earth. Potentially.
Why then, is he so often cut from LOTR? Well... he doesn't really do anything. He rescues Frodo and Co. from another momentary peril on their way to Bree, but it's a sequence too easily edited with no repercussions.
It's because of the complete lack of relevance to the plot that our Tom features so rarely. But that in itself is unfair - he's an interesting, complex character of immense power that could probably dropkick Sauron into the fires of Mount Doom himself, if only he were the slightest bit bothered. Seriously, the One Ring holds absolutely no power over him. The dude isn't even made invisible by it.
