Arrow Season 4: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Lost In The Flood'

5. Lonnie Machin

Arrow Lost in the Flood
The CW

One of the true highlights of the past few episodes of Arrow, and something that continued here, has been the use of Lonnie Machin, aka Anarky.

With each and every passing appearance, Machin seems to be more and more enjoyable as he runs out of f*cks to give. Seriously, to target uber-powerful Damien Darhk in the first place lets you know that Lonnie is way past caring, and to then target his wife and daughter is a step even further into total lack of giving any sort of a sh*t about what happens. Added to that, he also managed to hold off an attack from Green Arrow, Speedy and Spartan all at once.

These last few Arrow outings have seen Machin bumped up from C-level villain-of-the-week fodder to becoming someone who has, dare I say it, an actual story arc. So often rogues come and go, with their place merely being to serve as a one-and-done sort of villain as their endgame becomes irrelevant after one appearance. Anarky is different, though, for he’s been given something more juicy to sink his teeth into as a character; that being his crusade to take down Damien Darhk.

Going even further by actually killing Damien’s wife, Ruve, wasn’t the smartest of moves where Lonnie’s lifespan was concerned, but it was sure a shocking moment and one that added yet another level of intensity and insanity to Lonnie Machin.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main day job, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks/Saints, Jamie Hayter, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
