Arrow Season 8 Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Present Tense'
4. Dinah Comes Into Her Own
Juliana Harkavy may be a series regular this season, but we haven't really seen all that much of her yet. Now, that's obviously down to Oliver's intense travels (and we're only four episodes in!), but after a brief cameo in the conclusion of last week's instalment, she was back on our screens as the show's second Black Canary Dinah Drake.
Over the years, Dinah is a character that sometimes gets lost in the madness of the show's group storylines, but there is undeniably potential there. And in this week's episode, she was used incredibly well.
Being a peacekeeper and confidante, she was imperative in keeping Team Arrow together after they discovered the truth about Star City's dark future, and how it ultimately impacts their children. Speaking to Diggle, she inspired him to talk to his adopted son Connor, and chatting to best friend Rene, she inspired him to change the future.
This seems like it's building towards Dinah's crucial role in setting up the Canary Network and, by extension, Arrow spin-off (working title Green Arrow and the Canaries) - and if that ends up being anything like her role in this episode, it's safe to say we should expect better things for her going forward.
