While the 2024 newspaper article has popped up in The Flash more times than Barry Allen would care to count, things got a lot more real in the Season 5 premiere due to the arrival of Barry's daughter Nora West-Allen. The young speedster revealed to her father that while she was upset that he vanished during her childhood, she was even more heartbroken by the fact that he never came back.

Nora then accessed the Time Vault's database and brought up a different article - a piece from 2049 (also written by Iris West-Allen) which supported the bombshell she had just dropped, revealing that The Flash was still missing 25 years after the Crisis.

What made this hint even more significant than the rest is the heroes that the article references. It reads:

Some eyewitnesses remember dozens of heroes present, including Green Arrow, Batwoman and Elongated Man. Others remember heroes thought lost in time, like the Atom, or from other worlds like Supergirl.

Given that Green Arrow, Supergirl, Elongated Man and the Atom all currently-active heroes within the Arrowverse, not to mention the fact that Batwoman just made her long-awaited debut, it's clear that the pieces of this Crisis-filled crossover were already falling into place back in September. So, we should have expected it to happen sooner rather than later.
