The first episode of the second half of the final season (which due to the 2008 Writer's Strike was packaged as its own season) was a gut-punch in its own right. Following on from the discovery of Earth (a nuclear wasteland that's been uninhabited for 2,000 years), the human and rebel Cylons are completely devastated. Nobody knows what to do next, they've found their goal and it's nothing but wreckage.

Admiral Adama walks aimlessly through the corridors while fist-fights and weeping go unnoticed. The sense of loss and hopelessness is palpable, leaving a taste of ash in the mouths of everyone in the fleet. Amidst all of this, Anastasia 'Dee' Dualla suggests that she and Lee Adama (to whom she was previously married but amicably separated) spend the evening together. They have a pleasant time and go their separate ways.

Then Dee shoots herself in the head.

Eventually, the fleet realises that they will have to find a new world, but Colonel Tigh has a vision of his wife Ellen. A new course of action suggests itself.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
