Starbuck's long hair was never going down in history as the best wig ever made, let's be honest. So, seeing her shear away those extensions was cathartic on several levels really!

The main thrust of the episode focuses on Starbuck (and Tigh's) ongoing struggle to adapt to life in the military again after the trauma that they have faced. For Starbuck, she has been subjected to mental torture again and again by Leoben in his house of horrors on New Caprica. It was there that he convinced her that she had a daughter, Kacey.

Though they escape together, Kara and Kacey are immediately torn apart on their return to Galactica when her real mother spots them and takes her daughter back. This latest crushing blow to Kara is enough to break her, sending her into a spiral of depression.

It takes Admiral Adam quite literally knocking her on her arse to snap her out of it. The nature of her depression was that she couldn't see beyond her own pain - her surrogate father helps with, even though he uses tough love to do it.

She wakes from her reverie, chops off the hair and goes to find Kacey, apologising for the way she has been acting.
