BoJack Horseman: 10 Worst Things Mr Peanutbutter Has Ever Done
4. Fake Grand Gestures
Let it never be said that Mr Peanutbutter doesn’t show he cares. However, he doesn’t always show it in the best way.
Mr Peanutbutter’s grand gestures of love might be big and heartfelt, but they’re often the worst possible demonstration of his feelings. What they show most of all is that he cares about himself.
These gestures aren’t selfish in the style of Homer getting Marge a bowling ball on The Simpsons, but they reveal things nonetheless. The gesture becomes about how wonderful he is, rather than how much he cares about the person he’s allegedly doing it for.
Take Diane’s ballroom/Belle room. First off, the ballroom he makes is just a ball pit in their house, with a party (something Diane dislikes) to go with it. This obviously isn’t what a ballroom means, and he hadn’t even heard her right, because she meant a Belle room, after Belle from Beauty & The Beast.
He then paints faces on furniture and offers her a (game) library in a smaller - though still quite grand - gesture, but again fails to really understand. This was a fantasy for Diane, and she had clearly expressed she wanted it to remain that way.
