Broadchurch Finale: 12 Questions That Still Need Answering

8. Why Was Alec So Adamant Lee Was The Killer?

Broadchurch Lee Alec Gif Aside from the fact that Claire flipped on her husband - presumably because he was unhinged by the murder (because the way the finale showed the crime suggested he wasn't really as sinister as everyone had been lead to believe) and she was scared - there wasn't much evidence available to Alec that Lee genuinely did it. Hardy actually did very little to solve the case, relying on Ellie's superior detective work to put the final pieces together, and he seems to have based his entire case on the fact that Lee was "a bit creepy". That in itself proved also to be misdirection, as the suggestion that Lee might be a paedophile turned out to be a nasty little lie (his attraction to Lisa might have been silly, but it was entirely legal), so what the hell was Hardy seeing in him to make him believe he was the killer? Was he supposed to be some sort of extra-sentient super-policeman?
