Brooklyn Nine-Nine: 10 Best Characters Only In One Episode

5. Jess Day

Brooklyn Nine Nine Jess New Girl

Though Jessica Day was already an established, popular TV character before her appearance on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, she did technically only spend one episode with Peralta in New York. The New Girl character appeared in season four’s The Night Shift, as one half of a two part crossover between the two shows.

After returning from witness protection, Jake engages in a chase with a suspect, and has to commandeer a vehicle. The car he takes is being driven by Miss. Day, on a trip to New York to see Schmidt receive an award. To prove he is actually a cop, Jess asks Jake to name one law. It set the bar way too low, but she had to let him in after that.

The two compare New York to Los Angeles by way of songs, and during the entire chase Jess is more concerned with not spilling her soup than with Jake catching the bad guy.

Andy Samberg described this kind of crossover as like when Scooby Doo and the Harlem Globetrotters would hang out, and though Zooey Deschanel only appeared in one scene, her interaction with Jake was pure gold. You have to watch New Girl to see her interact with Gina and Captain Holt, which is just as great as you would imagine.
