Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Most Uplifting Moments

4. Giles Gets Fired - Season 3, Episode 12

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Willow And Xander
Mutant Enemy

Though not quite as extravagant as other moments on this list, Giles being fired by the Watchers Council is not just one of the biggest turning points in his development, but a devastatingly heart-wrenching moment in which it becomes clear just how much Giles loves and cares for Buffy.

After putting her through the wringer by weakening her powers for the Council's tests, Giles steps in to save Buffy and apologises for his actions.

In the end, Buffy is said to have passed the tests the Council had laid out for her - but Giles wasn't so fortunate. Instead, poor Giles is fired because he loves Buffy and is too close to her to effectively do his job.

The look on Buffy's face is enough to tug at your heartstrings for days, and even when good ol' Quentin Travers has left, the former Watcher tends to Buffy's wounds and proves that everything Travers just said is completely true.

With her own father being an absolute waste, it's great to see Giles step into those shoes and become the paternal figure that Buffy never had.
