Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
1. Season Three
The perfect combination of everything that made Buffy the Vampire Slayer so great, Season Three landed on almost every level and there are so few things wrong with it, it's hard to pinpoint specifics. Angelus is a better antagonist than the immortal Mayor Wilkins, but Wilkins comes in at a close second.
The introduction of the unpredictable Slayer Faith is a highlight of the whole show, as some of the best dramatic character work is given to her over the course of the season resulting in her becoming iconic.
Buffy's school years are her best years and Season Three is a celebration of that, with key events such as homecoming, the prom and of course graduation taking place in this season. In a lot of ways, Season Three was a farewell to everything that came before, as Buffy shifted into very different show in Season Four and beyond.
We said goodbye to Angel and Cordelia as core cast members, and to Sunnydale High in general, which had been the Scooby Gang's stomping grounds for 56 episodes. Most importantly, we said goodbye to the characters as schoolkids (not that they ever looked school age) as they began to mature into adults in the following season.
Season Three has phenomenal storytelling with tender well-earned moments of sadness and tense destructive moments of conflict. Faith and Wilkins were welcome additions that bolstered the season, and the rest of the Scooby Gang were at the top of their game. It's Buffy at her best, and it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer at its best.
