20 TV Shows That Were Cancelled In 2025
9. The Waterfront
It sure seemed like Netflix had high hopes for The Waterfront, a new crime drama series from Scream creator Kevin Williamson, which early hype had compared to hit shows such as Bloodline and Ozark.
Though the critical reception was mixed, it nevertheless debuted to the #1 spot and maintained it for three weekends in a row, while staying in Netflix's top 10 English-language TV shows for five weeks.
It seemed highly likely that a renewal announcement was imminent, then, only for Netflix to cancel The Waterfront back in August.
Two primary factors were apparently to blame - the series' viewership and its completion rate, the latter being a metric which Netflix has historically taken more seriously than other streaming platforms.
This metric, which isn't publicly reported on, is said to be the reason why many shows with cult appeal that struggle to sustain mainstream interest end up being cancelled.
And considering that The Waterfront clearly cost a pretty penny to produce, Netflix evidently decided it wasn't quite worth the continued investment.
