Casting Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Reboot

4. Chief O'Brien - Brendan Gleeson

Brendan Gleeson The Guard
Optimum Releasing

Brendan Gleeson can do no wrong. Once again - Brendan Gleeson can do no wrong.

While he would certainly be an older choice to play the Chief than Colm Meaney was back in '87, Brendan Gleeson has the appropriate world-weary presence to more than perfectly play the main engineer on board the station.

How easy is it to imagine him grumbling as the turbolifts break down again and again, or having to fix a computer screen after another fight with the Cardassians? It isn't a stretch to imagine him jumping in a Runabout and chasing a Galor class warship down to make sure they don't cause any more hassle.

Any one of his roles to this point would make for a strong audition reel for Deep Space Nine. He is versatile and highly talented. He would make a fantastic chief!
