Sherlock dominated the final day of Comic-Con, with showrunners Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat bringing a good look at the still in-production Series 4.

While the trailer itself had plenty of mysterious hints, it's the typical three words tease that's going to have fans speculating. This year, the three words were revealed to be Thatcher, Smith, and Sherrinford.

What could they mean? Let the games begin.

Speculation has already started that Smith, which being such a common name doesn't give that much to go on, refers to Culverton Smith. He appears in a short story called The Adventure of the Dying Detective, and is tricked into thinking he's poisoned Holmes, so he confesses to doing the same to his nephew.

Sherrinford, meanwhile, may well be a reference to the third Holmes brother. Sherrinford Holmes isn't from Doyle's work, but did appear in a fictional biography of Sherlock written by William Stuart Baring-Gould. The presence of a third Holmes brother has been hinted at on the series before, so this one seems pretty likely.

As for Thatcher, that one is anyone's guess. Margaret, maybe?
