Community: 15 Best Ever Episodes

3. Season 2 Episode 8 - Cooperative Calligraphy

Community Epidemiology
NBC

Community always worked well when a small incident/favor/idea/scheme snowballed into something much, much more. And at the top of this episode, the simple query of a missing pen explodes into a self-contained "bottle episode" where the Study Group's trust issues and inner quirks are explored.

Annie's particular nature sets off the events; insisting that someone in the group accidentally took one of her pens. The stubborn and dismissive nature of the rest of the group ramps up to the point where they are undressing and turning the study room upside down.

The segments and skits in the episode are a great example of what would happen if the Study Group were trapped together, wanted to get out and could at any moment, but decided not to. The very nature of a pen going missing is so superfluous, but for Annie and the rest of the group it's a principal and no one in the group is willing to back down.

The episode is made all the more hilarious with Dean Pelton's loudspeaker announcements of an adorable, unseen puppy parade occurring outside the college campus. And his reaction to the leftover carnage from their bottle episode seals the episode perfectly.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
