There arent many better sounds in television than when you sit down to watch something, and within the first few seconds you hear that raspy undertone of white noise. It can mean only one thing: HBO (unless your tv is broken that is, in which case it could be that). That famous few seconds has preluded some of the greatest shows ever conceived. The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire what a roll call. Yet there is only one sound that perhaps eclipses the white noise of HBOs intro for me, a sound that comes immediately after it on occasion. It is known to orchestral connoisseurs as Luciano Michelinis Frolic, but to the rest of the audience, we know it as the theme from Curb Your Enthusiasm. BOM BOM BOM DA DA DA, DADA DADA I wont go on, as the difficulties of replicating a brass band through text are evident. But you know the sound, and if you dont, go and buy the Curb Your Enthusiasm box set, hole up in your house for a week or two, and thank me afterwards. Once past that genius opening intro, viewers are treated to the cynicism and socially awkward abrasiveness of one of televisions finest creations, Lawrence Gene David Larry for short. His comments, motives and activities will make you cringe in equal measurements of disgust and laughter, hes truly a unique entity. He's famous for getting it wrong, that is, making the wrong judgement call, being insensitive to others feelings, and generally only thinking about himself. There are brief moments however, when Mr.David gets it right, VERY right, and yet is still punished as a result. So its time to get behind Larry, give him the backing he occasionally deserves, and countdown the 10 best moments when he was in fact right.
