Cursed Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. Nimue Is A Slightly Underwhelming Protagonist
It's always a bit troubling when the protagonist of a movie or TV show is ultimately less interesting than several of the "lesser" characters, but that's absolutely true here.
To be clear, Nimue is intriguing to a point, but she's also such a typically virtuous, straight-forward heroine that there's not really much internal conflict to make her arc throughout the season truly gripping.
A number of the show's peripheral characters, namely Arthur, Sister Igraine (Shalom Brune-Franklin), and especially Merlin (Gustaf SkarsgÄrd), all feel far more like actual, relatable people, ultimately making her depiction here feel like a bit of a missed opportunity.
Thankfully Langford's performance still manages to tease out enough interest, though Nimue's journey throughout the season is more functional than imaginative.
