In the latest 'superhero adaptations still haven't fixed the gender problem'-shocker, Daredevil came with a strong trio of actresses - Deborah Ann Woll (more on her in a minute), Ayelet Zurer and Rosario Dawson - and made them little more than male accessories or victims. Granted, Murdock relies on Dawson's Claire's crucial medical help so he can actually keep on fighting, but her character is under-written and offers little beyond the roles 'nurse' and 'love interest'. Ayelet Zurer's Vanessa was even more thanklessly used as a narrative catalyst, giving Wilson Fisk extra reasons to go around killing more people, though her character at least had some depth. Both Dawson and Zurer were very strong in season 1, so why not give them and others like them more to do with their time? Dawson has already confirmed she'll be making a return next year - hopefully season 2 will offer her extra screen time (she basically made glorified cameos in season 1) and allow her to develop Claire into a fully-rounded human being.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
