Did Game Of Thrones Season 8 Secretly Just Confirm A Great Theory?
M + T = L?

SPOILERS FOR GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8...
Watching Game Of Thrones isn't just about watching what's on screen any more. It hasn't been for a long time now. In reality, the show demands more because of the way it's constructed in narrative terms.
Because of the way George RR Martin constructed his story, the journey in Thrones has been one from darkness to light. Pretty much every single major character has in some way been linked to a world-changing revelation and after a while, that sort of trope tends to stick. Fundamentally now, fans seek to fill any story void - whether accidental or consciously constructed - with a theory, and that absolutely adds to the community around the show.
Naturally, when a character ends up being immediately beloved, they tend to be the target for more theories, and while there tend to be more for characters closer to the top of the cast bill or whose surname correlates with a Great House, that hasn't stopped some popular edge characters being the subject of some speculation.
Though her part in the show is now done, Lyanna Mormont absolutely fits that bill. Since her debut, she's left an indelible mark and with no real commitment to telling the story of her past (at least not in the kind of detail we've seen other characters get), there's always been space for some theorising on her bloodline.
Throw in another fan favourite in the shape of Tormunt Giantsbane and you've got the recipe for one of the best theories in Thrones. And Season 8's stunning The Long Night episode might well have just acknowledged it...
2. The Theory

What if Tormund wasn't exaggerating about having bedded a bear? What if he was just using poetic licence when he told the story and the "bear" he mentions was in fact an important resident of Bear Island?
What if Tormund Giantsbane slept with Lyanna Mormont's mother Maege and impregnated her?
It's not like it would be the first time a Northern clansman and a wildling had become romantically involved, after all. And it's not like we can ask Maege, since she was killed fighting for Robb Stark. But if we had met her in the show, we might have learned that in the books she was known as the She-Bear and a little more of the lore of House Mormont that suggests they may have been sired by bears.
Tormund's "bear" is known as Sheila, but his claims that she "really knew what she was doing" suggest she probably wasn't exactly wild. At least not in that sense. So there's always been a possibility. But now with Lyanna's big moment in the third episode of season 8, we might have had another confirmation.
