Did Game Of Thrones Season 8 Secretly Just Confirm A Great Theory?

1. The "Proof"?

Lyanna Mormont Death
HBO

Well, how about the fact that they're both now Giantslayers?

In The Long Night, as expected, Lyanna died in the service of the North, not only standing to fight against insurmountable odds but also literally running directly at a wight giant.

Ultimately, her body is crushed and she dies, but not before she stabs the monstrous creature in the eye and kills it. They die together in a tragic but epic tryst, almost like a giant parent cuddling their offspring. See... it's not accidental.

Could this be the show's writers nodding towards the Tormund/Maege theory by giving us just enough of a parallel between the characters to feed it even more? It certainly looks possible.

After all, Lyanna's defiance and her incredible commitment to battle even in the face of such adversity is a lot more like something Tormund would do than Jorah Mormont. Yes, she shares recognisable characteristics with her cousin, but there's more fire to her than him and more of an edge to her honour. She's... wilder.

Even if they've not done it as concrete confirmation, kudos to the show-makers for feeding this fire a little more. Because who wouldn't want it to be true?
