8. Richard Hearne
Fresh off the success of his character Mr. Pastry, Richard Hearne had auditioned for the role that ultimately went to the beloved Tom Baker. Fortunately Hearne wasn't even offered the part due to creative differences with producers. Apparently he insisted on portraying the Doctor as Mr. Pastry and that didn't go over too well - thank goodness. Few potential Doctors show us exactly what type of Doctor they would be, but because of Hearne's insistence on using Mr. Pastry as inspiration we know exactly just how awful he'd be. Not unlike Atkinson, Hearne's Doctor would rely on the slapstick humor and offer little substance or depth to the role.
