7. Ken Campbell

Before casting Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Ken Campbell was brought in to audition for the role. Campbell was primarily involved in theater at the time, known for his comedy and experimental style on stage. Considering his theatrical and comedic background, Campbell was surprisingly turned down for his dark portrayal as the Doctor. Campbell's Doctor would have been grandiose in his actions, distracting his opponents with theatrics while calculating his next move. There would be darkness in him, though, often losing sight of the big picture and getting caught up in his grievances. He'd actually be similar to late Sylvester McCoy planning large-scale attacks on his enemies, except in the name of vengeance. His companions would ground him by playing the part of moral compass in the show.
