Doctor Who: 10 Biggest Cop Out Endings

4. The Lodger / Closing Time

I might be the only person in the whole of Great Britain, but I love James Corden. I think he's a great actor, really funny in every role, and I think he's perfect opposite Matt Smith. A lot of people can't stand him though. And a lot of people hate the episodes that he's appeared in. It sort of made sense for 'The Lodger' to end in a big show of affection; that's what it was leading up to. It was ever-so-slightly unbelievable though that a Silent ship could be defeated by a young couple from Colchester. The Cybermen though? Sure, they were depleted, but it had already been established that there's no going back from a conversion. Even if you hear a baby cry. Writer Gareth Roberts actually joked with the idea that love had saved the day, but he didn't offer any alternate conclusion. Apparently, alien technology is built with the weakness that should people who care for each other come into contact with it, it spontaneously combusts. No it really does: there were big explosions about to happen in both episodes, had the Doctor and Craig not have left the vicinities immediately.
