Doctor Who: 10 Most Disturbing Storylines

6. Lady Cassandra

The Idea: The human race have become so obsessed with trying to better themselves surgically, that all the last human has become is a sheet of flat skin. As first dates go, taking a girl to see the destruction of her planet, is probably somewhere between "Nando's" and "Adam Sandler film marathon". Given that the Doctor has access to all of time and space, you could think he'd try a little harder, don't you? Joking aside, it's rather poignant that the Doctor took Rose to the end of the Earth; she needed to understand what it was like for him to lose his world, and anyway, her people are still alive. It's a fantastic premise, heightened by the fact that only rich people can afford to watch the planet burn, and whilst you'd expect stereotypical royal characters on board the ship, the Lady Cassandra is monstrous; she's not only evil, she's creepy and unsettling, and the idea that this is how far people will push themselves in their quest for superficial beauty, is one that resonates strongly with today's society. This isn't just a person who's been turned into an alien, this is a person who chose to look like this. That's messed up.
