Doctor Who: 10 Incredible Early Designs Of Your Favourite Monsters

7. The Slitheen Were Almost Scary (A Little Bit)

SlitheenThe Creature You Know: The Slitheen faced an incredible challenge. Stars of the first two parter of Eccleston€™s tenure, they were the first villain that had a chance to match everyone€™s favourites from the classic series. Sadly, with their farting jokes and chubby cheeks that pig ended up being more memorable. Still, the general idea of aliens disguising themselves as politicians is pretty cool, it just fell down in the less adult state of the show. The Early Design You Don€™t: This one€™s pretty close to the final design, the only differences being elements that clearly proved tricky when creating the rubber suit; the pincers clearly weren't feasible and the dehumanising hunch and long neck (pretty cool in my opinion) was toned back. What really interests me about this design is the face. The eyes are pinpricks and the mouth a gaping hole with sharp teeth at the entrance, making something cute suddenly very scary. It's slight, but it does have an effect. Ultimately, the Slitheen design was inherently flawed; why would an alien hiding in a human shell be bigger than the disguise?
