Doctor Who: 10 Incredible Early Designs Of Your Favourite Monsters

6. The Supreme Dalek Was Almost Glass

GlassThe Creature You Know: Another entry on the Daleks? Well they€™re just the monster that keeps on giving. The Dalek Supreme was a pretty cool variation (the one area Nu-Who has diserviced the creatures is giving them few alternate casings) that had very little presence in its staring episode. After fans theorised it was a major threat (some even suggested it was a converted Harriet Jones), the reveal it was just Davros€™ prison warden was a bit lacklustre. The Early Design You Don€™t: While I've no idea if it was meant to play a bigger role originally (as The Stolen Earth and Journey€™s End were so stuffed with plot I€™I'm inclined to say no), the early version of the Supreme Dalek was a lot more striking. Evoking the Glass Dalek from Revelation Of The Daleks (a Sixth Doctor episode set early on in the Imperial-Renegade War) the Supreme would have had a clear casing, allowing you to see the mechanisms and mutated Kaled beneath. Of course, once a insane, damaged Caan became part of the story there was little need for another showcase of what€™s inside and the idea was dropped in favour of the ever so slightly less cool red and gold.
