Doctor Who: 10 Mind-Blowing Uses Of Foreshadowing You Never Noticed

3. "Is My Body Out There, Somewhere In The Ground?"

Series 7 was all about ghosts. The Doctor was living on after his death, dealing with the loss of his best friends, and trying to solve the mystery of the woman twice dead; there was no episode that summed up the grand themes of the series better than 'Hide'. Furthermore, there was no scene other than the one in the TARDIS that so perfectly encapsulated the idea of living on after a death. Clara cried, asking if she was a ghost to the Doctor, but he couldn't deny that she had a grave; Matt Smith's performance during this scene was of a man who'd been through losing friends so many times, standing over so many graves €“ not least Amy and Rory's €“ but his admittance that yes, everyone has a grave out there, was in fact a reference to the fact that even he has a grave. The Doctor and Clara would visit the his grave just a few episodes later. It was a brilliant pay-off for all the funereal imagery, but that scene in 'Hide' really set the wheels in motion for 'The Name of the Doctor'.
