Doctor Who: 10 Moments When The Fans Were Represented In The Show

9. Clive

With the birth of the internet, came the birth of a new wave of Whovians. These were the types that talked about the Doctor online, wished for his return to screens, and reminisced over the legend; and this type of fan was referenced in the very first episode of the revival, in 2005. Clive, a minor character from the episode 'Rose', represents all kinds of internet theorists, and the stereotypes that they pick up; it's mentioned in the episode how odd it would be for a woman to visit Clive. But the truth is, people like Clive were integral to the show; the real life internet community might not have scoured the history books for proof that the Doctor was on the Titanic, but they're what kept the legend of Doctor Who alive during the dark ages (or 1989 to 2005, to everyone else). It's lovely that a character like Clive would tell someone who doesn't know about the Doctor - either Rose, or the new fans that started watching from that episode onwards - all that you could possibly need to know about Doctor Who. He may have only been a common exposition trick, but he was one of us.
