Doctor Who: 10 Monsters That Should Come Back In Series 9
9. Mara
One of the more popular villains of the classic era of Doctor Who, despite some shoddy looking special effects, and certainly one that could be fantastic to witness in the modern era is the Mara. We first met the Mara in a 1982 Peter Davison classic where it infiltrated the mind of one of the Doctors companions, namely Tegan. That led to a strange and wonderful drug-trip type of episode where she became infected with the Maras influence and passed it on to the first person that she met. That episode culminated in a physical manifestation where the Mara turned into a massive snake, which at the time looked awful but was later fixed up via CGI to give it the look it rightfully deserved. It re-appeared in the lacklustre eighties sequel Snakedance which, although unimpressive, still managed to show that this enemy was a serious force. Perhaps this adversary could appear once again, potentially taking over the mind of one of the Doctors companions, and worming its way into the TARDIS. It would be another interesting dream based episode in Nu-Who (after the Eleventh's Doctor Dream Lord) as well as giving an opportunity for this old enemy to get the new CGI look it deserves.
