Doctor Who: 10 Monsters That Should Come Back In Series 9

7. Vashta Nerada

With a name that translates as €œthe shadows that melt the flesh€, these are Moffat villains that are yet to be over used and subsequently ruined, meaning they are perfect for re-introduction. Last seen back in the Tennant era of the show, and the excellent two-part episodes Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead, the Vashta Nerada were microscopic beings that lived in swarms of thousands, feeding off of meat. On their own they are not much of a threat, with the Tenth Doctor claiming that the dust specks you see in bright sunlight were single Vashta Nerada. In large groups however, the creatures can strip a being to its bare bones in milliseconds. This enemy makes use of our most basic fear: the dark. That fear is actually a terror of the unknown, which series eight of the show has tapped into on several occasions, especially during Listen. As well as that, the Vashta Nerada are also pretty undefeatable, there is no way to fight them and the Doctor didn€™t seem to have a plan for them the last time they met. Imagine an alliance between them and another Moffat villain, such as the Weeping Angels, and you have one hell of an episode.
