Doctor Who: 10 Props And Costumes That Miraculously Still Exist

1. The Taran Wood Beast

Image 2 The Taran Wood Beast from 'The Androids of Tara' has a memorable place in Doctor Who history, mainly because it was absolutely diabolically bad. It probably took all of 10 minutes to put together and I think both the audience and the production team thought the Beast's appearance was best forgotten. Out of the blue a few months ago, a curious lot appeared as a lot of an auction, the same auction featuring the Yeti model. It was none other than the Taran Wood Beast. Amazingly it is in surprisingly good condition, as in it hasn't been in an unfortunate fire, like so many props over the years. It almost doesn't seem fair. The most remarkably tragic thing about this costume in the auction is that it failed to sell. The Taran Wood Beast is destined to remain unloved. Yet in the grand scheme of things, it is one of the survivors of an age of Doctor Who where the Daleks were treated with the same respect as the rubbish and retaining props and costumes was a luxury. It's impossible to hold on to everything, and whatever remains is all that more special as a result, and sadly some of what was retained has met an end through other means. Sure the Taran Wood Beast isn't a Yeti costume by any means, but it is an original Doctor Who costume that no one appreciated at the time expected or wanted to see again, so for that reason, it is a miracle this costume exists. What props or costumes from Doctor Who's past have you seen that defy belief? Let us know in the comments below.
