Doctor Who: 10 Props And Costumes That Miraculously Still Exist

6. The Five Doctors TARDIS Console

P1000233 Version 2 I have an unhealthy fascination with the TARDIS interior history, mainly due to how remarkable it is that in the early days it was thrown together in any old order. By the time of 'The Five Doctors', the TARDIS was redesigned and remained pretty much the same for the last 6 or 7 years of the original series run. It was the heaviest redesign, for the console at least, that the programme had seen. Sadly by the time of the Console's final appearance in Battlefield, the main walls had been destroyed due to damage in storage (they apparently started to go mouldy with damp). As it was the orphaned console that had been at the centre of the Doctor's travels for nearly 7 years at that point, had seen better days and was destined for the scrap pile. However, despite the cancellation of the series, the console was retained and made many cameo appearances in BBC shows over the years, including 'Tomorrow's World' and 'The Generation Game'. It was believed that eventually the console was junked. Somewhere along the line the console made its way into a private collection and was restored, with a little bit of artistic license adding coloured lights in place of the original plain ones, for the Doctor Who Experience, where it stands to this day, with a mock up of the rest of the TARDIS set.
