Doctor Who: 10 Questions We Have About 'The Day Of The Doctor'

8. No Classic Doctors?

Doctor Who Clara Colin Baker The latest comment from Steven Moffat seemed to finally put an end to the debate, when he declared "They're all brilliant, they're all terrific, but time has passed. I think it would be beyond the dignity of all those very fine actors to want to force themselves back into a costume from 20 or 30 years ago." And to be fair, he has a point. It wouldn't be the same to see Tom Baker in the scarf these days, and it would look a bit daft if Colin Baker donned his technicolour dreamcoat, and not just because it's a ridiculous costume. But is there no way that any of these Doctors can appear? As mentioned, they could lend their voices. And what if different actors were to portray them, like Richard Hurndall did with the First Doctor in The Five Doctors? Sure, it's not the same, but we know that Ten and Eleven are going to make up the bulk of the story, only a quick cameo would be enough to please some fans. Is Paul McGann really too past it? And why on earth would Peter Davison have a script? If he's that past it now, why was it okay for him to appear in 'Time Crash'? It's a difficult subject. It's something we'd all love, if it was done correctly. But just how do you cast old actors for parts they played thirty years ago without drawing attention to their old age?
