Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Reece Shearsmith Should Appear In Future Second Doctor Adventures

8. Adventures With Past/A Few Later Selves

Doctor Who Baker Troughton Which leads nicely into this. With the Fifth, Sixth and Eleventh Doctors available to any possible writing teams surely the temptation to involve them somehow would prove too strong, possibly leading to a Bradley and Shearsmith reunion. And in the case of Six it offers the prospect of sequels or prequels to 'The Two Doctors,' which could in turn lead to further narrative exposition of the Season 6B fan theory and some explanation of just how and when Second becomes Third Doctor and tumbles from the TARDIS in 'Spearhead From Space'. There are a few questions that remain from that alone. What went on in the time between 'The War Games' and ' Spearhead'? If a suitable stand-in for Jon Pertwee could be found (possibly his son Shaun in a wig?) there's a very real possibility of pre-'Three Doctors' meetings with the dandy. And how they'd get on in these first encounters could be fascinating to see/hear. The Third seems to regard his younger self as little more than an irritant when they first meet on screen and team up to stop Omega. There could be any number of reasons could be behind this. Could the older man be resentful of the younger for not doing more to resist his fate at the end of 'The War Games'? After all, he does seem to resent being stuck on Earth as scientific advisor to UNIT for a time and can't wait to get back to the rest of the universe once his memory of how to pilot his beloved blue box is returned to him. Moving further forward, there's also chance to insert a short 'Time Crash'-style cutaway into 'Castrovalva'. We think it would be a great look back if in the process of discerning his personality and picking up a recorder once more post-regeneration, the Fifth was visited by the past self who first played the instrument. It offers the chance for the older man to be in awe of the younger as his Tenth self was of the chap in the cricket whites, and it would be a fitting tribute to Pat's legacy. And of course, there's scope for the Sixth to have similar moments in pre or post- 'Two Doctors' adventures. Hell, if Paul McGann's willing to step in we'll have more of Two and Eight sharing that brief joint appearance in 'The Day Of The Doctor' please. And some Two-Eleven stories before or after 'Cold War' if its not too much to ask!
